EPD Global Funds Up to €18,000 for EPD Platforms: How to Apply

A grant to implement a pre-verified EPD platform and start publishing EPDs faster

EPD Global (The Norwegian EPD Foundation) has long run a financial support program to accelerate the adoption of digital EPD generation platforms among construction product manufacturers and other industries. The grant covers between €5,000 and €18,000 per EPD platform implementation, co-financing up to 50% of development costs.

The goal is to make large-scale EPD generation more accessible and cost-effective for companies, using verified digital platforms.

What the EPD Global Grant Covers

The program provides a fixed contribution to co-finance the implementation of an EPD platform within your organization.

  • Amount: €5,000 to €18,000 per EPD platform
  • Co-financing rate: Up to 50% of total development and implementation costs. The remaining costs are the responsibility of the applicant.
  • Who can apply: Both Norwegian and international companies (legal entities with a registered company number). Manufacturers don’t need to be based in Norway.
  • Volume requirement: To qualify, the EPD platform must be generating more than 25 published EPDs within the first 12 months of approval by the EPD Global Technical Committee. This reflects the programme operator's intention to support platforms that deliver real volume.
  • Timeline: Once approved, the grant must be used within 12 months. Payment is made after the EPD platform has been approved by the Technical Committee, upon invoice from the applicant.

Eligibility Criteria

To access the grant, the following conditions must be met:

  1. The applicant must be a registered organisation or company (Norwegian or foreign company registration number).
  2. The sector must be relevant to EPDs or represent a new industry with significant potential.
  3. The EPD platform must be verified by an independent third party and approved by the EPD Global Technical Committee.
  4. The EPD platform must be connected to the EPD Global approval and publication portal.
  5. The platform must demonstrate the ability to publish more than 25 EPDs within the first 12 months of approval.

How to Apply

The process is managed directly by EPD Global on a rolling basis. Once you have signed an agreement with Emidat, our team can support you with the written application to EPD Global.

Applications are treated confidentially and evaluated on an ongoing basis. There are no fixed deadlines, but annual funds are limited. When the current year's budget is exhausted, applications are rejected or deferred to the following year.

If approved, the applicant has 12 months to implement the platform and meet the conditions. Payment is then made by EPD Global upon invoice, following Technical Committee approval.

Why This Matters for Manufacturers

Demand for EPDs is accelerating across Europe. Procurement departments, general contractors, and green building certification schemes increasingly require verified environmental data at the product level and an Environmental Product Declaration is the recognised standard for providing it.

Regulatory pressure is moving in the same direction. The EU's new Ecodesign requirements and the growing role of environmental data in Digital Product Passports mean that manufacturers who build up EPD capabilities today will be better positioned with increasing compliance obligations. EPDs can also be used as a practical input for Scope 3 reporting.

The real challenge for most manufacturers is scale. The traditional route, commissioning a consultant for each product, costs between €5,000 and €15,000 per EPD and usually takes more than six months. That pace makes it impractical to create verified EPDs for a catalogue of 10, 20 or 50 products.

EPD platforms change this equation entirely. With a pre-verified platform like Emidat, the first EPD can be generated in around two weeks, and additional EPDs for products in the same family cost a fraction of the first. The EPD Global grant reduces the barrier further, co-financing up to half of the implementation costs.

Where Emidat Fits Into the Programme

Emidat is a pre-verified EPD platform approved by EPD Global. The platform is designed specifically for construction product manufacturers and supports the entire process, from data collection to published EPD.

  • Pre-verified by EPD Global. Emidat's calculation methodology is validated by an independent third-party verifier, which means EPDs generated through the platform follow an accelerated approval process.
  • Connected to the EPD Global publication portal. EPDs generated with Emidat are published directly through EPD Global, satisfying criterion 5 of the grant programme.
  • Built for volume. Emidat is designed to support companies that need to publish EPDs across multiple product families, meeting the 25+ EPD threshold required by the programme.

If you are considering implementing Emidat and want to take advantage of the EPD Global grant, we can support you in preparing the application and providing the necessary documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can non-Norwegian companies apply?

Yes. The programme is open to organisations and companies with a foreign registration number. You do not need to be based in Norway.

Is there a deadline to apply?

Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis. However, annual funds are limited. When the year's budget is exhausted, applications are deferred to the following year. Applying early increases your chances of accessing available funds.

Can I use the grant if I have already started implementing an EPD platform?

The programme criteria require that the platform must be approved by the EPD Global Technical Committee and that the grant is used within 12 months of approval. For specific situations, it is advisable to contact EPD-Norway directly.

How much of my costs does the grant cover?

Up to 50% of total EPD platform implementation costs, with a maximum of €18,000 and a minimum of €5,000.

What happens if I don't publish 25 EPDs in the first year?

The requirement of 25 EPDs within the first 12 months is a qualifying criterion. It reflects EPD Global’s intention to support platforms that generate real volume. If the expected volume is lower, it is worth discussing eligibility directly with EPD Global.
